Samsung is preparing fix for randomly dying Galaxy S III devices

It was previously reported that Galaxy S III owners were experiencing weird problems with their phones.
Users (Mostly from XDA-Developers Community) discovered that the flash memory in the device was becoming corrupt and failing, causing the phone’s mainboard to die. Devices affected with this problem were lasting about 150-200 days before dying permanently, and when sent to repair center Samsung was replacing devices with no questions asked.
A company spokesperson revealed that the problem is in a firmware bug that can be easily solved with a small update.

The spokesperson confirmed that the issue has only been affecting “a very limited number of Galaxy S III models with 16GB memory” and the company is working on a fix that will be released as soon as possible, though no timeframe was provided.
